NFLPA seeking suspension reversals under new drug testing policy
NFLPA chief DeMaurice Smith said in an interview Friday that the union, which is in discussions with the league about changes to the performance-enhancing drugs policy, will be seeking suspension reversals in cases that involve infractions which occurred this year but saw players punished under the previous policy.
"We don't want players to suffer because the union and league couldn't get it done before the league year," Smith said in an interview with 106.7 The Fan, via ESPN.
ESPN's report goes on to say that sources within the Denver Broncos believe Wes Welker could be reinstated if the policy comes into effect before the end of his suspension.
Welker's infraction fell under the league's policy for PEDs, but under the new policy, the stimulant in question would be punished under the league's policy for substance abuse, and would not carry with it an automatic suspension.
