Doctors confirm Jim Kelly is cancer-free

Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly, who spent 11 seasons with the Buffalo Bills, revealed Thursday that doctors have told him he is cancer-free.

Kelly had this to say in a statement, via ProFootballTalk.

"This is some of the greatest news I’ve ever gotten. It’s been a long road, and I’m still not back to one hundred percent, but I have a lot to be thankful for."

Kelly had part of his jaw surgically removed in 2013 after being diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma. The cancer reappeared earlier this year, and he underwent chemotherapy and radiation therapy.

Doctors told Kelly in August that an examination revealed no cancer. On Thursday, he was told a series of biopsies showed the cancer is gone.

More from Kelly's statement, via Yahoo Sports.

"I am so thankful for the support and prayers of my family, my friends near and far, and everyone in Western New York and throughout the country through my illness. I also want to thank the medical specialists who have done such amazing work. Most of all, I want to thank God. Without my faith and God's constant presence, there would be no such thing as 'Kelly Tough.'"
