Report: Broncos' Wes Welker suspended 4 games for use of amphetamines
Denver Broncos wide receiver Wes Welker has been suspended four games for use of amphetamines, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Welker has been working his way back from a concussion he suffered in the preseason. Now it looks like he will get an extra month off.
Per ESPN, Welker's positive test came in May right after attending the Kentucky Derby. The receiver believes his sample was tainted.
The Broncos open the season on a tough stretch, facing the Indianapolis Colts, Kansas City Chiefs, Seattle Seahawks, and Arizona Cardinals. Losing Welker for that run is going to be a challenge.
Expect Emmanuel Sanders and Cody Latimer to get increased playing time in Welker's absence. Both of those players are first-year Broncos, so it will be interesting to see how fast they gel with Peyton Manning and the Denver offense.
