Report: Eagles discussing possible return to Kelly green uniforms

The Philadelphia Eagles are considering committing to the Kelly era - not just with head coach Chip Kelly in charge of the team on the field, but also in their attire.

Team president Don Smolenski said via CBS Philly that the team has discussed returning to the Kelly green uniforms it wore prior to the 1990s, when it made the move to a darker shade it calls "Midnight Green."

"We have talked about it and there are some rules with the NFL that provides some restrictions that we’re trying to work through, but that’s going to take some time," Smolenski said. "It’s there, and it’s something that we do talk about, but until some things change at the NFL level it’s going to provide restrictions for us. It is being talked about it, yes."

The Eagles have worn Kelly green as a throwback in recent seasons, pleasing the traditionalists among the fan base.

A move to more radical uniforms may be on the table, too. Since Nike took over as the NFL's uniform manufacturer in 2011, teams like the Seattle Seahawks, Jacksonville Jaguars and Tampa Bay Buccaneers have introduced revolutionary new looks.
