VIDEO: Jim Kelly throws to Andre Reed during Hall of Fame induction
There were plenty of touching moments at the Pro Football Hall of Fame ceremony on Saturday, but receiver Andre Reed managed to steal the show by getting former Bills teammate Jim Kelly to throw to him one last time.
Kelly is battling cancer for the second time after his illness returned in February, and his recovery included six weeks of chemotherapy. It was not clear until closer to the event if he would be well enough to attend the ceremony.
"You taught us not to quit," Reed said at the ceremony, via ESPN. "You have endured a lot in your life. The loss of your son, and most recently your battle with cancer. You're an inspiration to all you touch."
And, uh, about those relocation rumors?
"Oh yeah, and the Bills will stay in Buffalo, too," Reed, who spent all but one year of his career in Buffalo, said.
His speech was 36 minutes long, but easily one of the most popular of the night.
"I had to stop for, like, two minutes," Reed said in a later NFL Network appearance, via the Syracuse Post-Standard. "That’s why they said, ‘Man, your speech was 36 minutes.’ I was, like, ‘Well …’"
