Former Jets special teams coach on Dee Milliner: 'I’m not sure he's the best cornerback up here'

New York Jets cornerback Dee Milliner's "I'm the best" corner in the NFL proclamation has ruffled a few feathers within his own organization.

"It doesn't bother me because it doesn't mean anything," Jets defensive coordinator Dennis Thurman told reporters Thursday (via ESPN). "You have to go out and play. Nobody goes out and talks their way through the National Football League. You have to perform your way through this league."

Former Jets special teams coach Mike Westhoff was less kind in his assessment of the second year Alabama product, going so far as to say he may be outperformed by someone on a college squad.

"Dee Milliner is a guy that, it’s just taking him a little while," Westhoff told ESPN Radio 98.7 (via NJ.com). "I was not very impressed with his rookie year. He made the mistake—and sometimes I think it’s the way a guy phrases an answer to a question—about being the best cornerback in the league, and he said that he was. Man, I’m not sure he's the best cornerback up here in Cortland. And I might include the university."

Milliner was wildly inconsistent during his rookie campaign in 2013, recording three interceptions and 56 combined tackles in 13 games while finding himself glued to the bench on multiple occasions.
