Cowboys' training camp not drawing much interest

While some NFL teams are experiencing a big fan turnout for the start of training camp, the Dallas Cowboys are not drawing much interest at their facilities in Oxnard, Calif.

According to Charean Williams of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, a total of 3,503 fans showed up for the first two days. Williams predicted a "big crowd" for Saturday, but only 4,279 were in attendance, giving the Cowboys a total attendance of 7,782 in three days.

The Washington Redskins, by comparison, had 11,127 fans show up for Saturday's practice.

The Cowboys are in the third and final year of their contract to hold training camp in Oxnard, but must decide whether to exercise a three-year option. Owner Jerry Jones declined to discuss the team's plans when speaking with reporters Wednesday.

"I do know this. This is our ninth year [in Oxnard] and it's better than it was when we started, and we certainly have the ability to consider it and are considering it and are looking forward to not only this camp but hopefully we’ll be preparing many Cowboys teams here," Jones said, via the Dallas Morning News

"Again, we're in discussions to do that, but nothing we've ever experienced here at Oxnard has been anything but positive and deserves a consideration of continued camp of practicing here."
