Report: Aldon Smith to meet with Roger Goodell in 'near future'

Kelley L Cox / USA TODAY Sports

Yet to poke his head into Roger Goodell's office, San Francisco 49ers edge-rusher Aldon Smith has escaped a turbulent year with merely a 12-day jail sentence.

That's soon about to change.

Smith is expected to fly to New York to meet with the commissioner within the coming weeks to discuss his transgressions, according to sources of ESPN's Bill Williamson.

Smith is expected to fly to New York sometime in the near future. It could be as soon as next week, although an exact date has not been set.

The former seventh-overall selection reported to 49ers training camp Wednesday, just a week after having three felony gun charges reduced to misdemeanors.
