Trubisky 'couldn't believe' Bears traded up to draft him

Just like the rest of the NFL world, Mitchell Trubisky was shocked by the Chicago Bears' decision to give up a ton of picks to move from third to second overall in order to secure the quarterback's services.

"The commissioner (Roger Goodell) went to the stand and he said my name and I couldn't believe it," Trubisky said on a conference call with Bears reporters Thursday, according to Conor Orr of NFL.com. "It was an unreal moment and I can't wait to get started."

Trubisky's disbelief was likely in part due to the Bears keeping their cards incredibly close to their chest.

"I had one workout with them and after that it was pretty much silence so that's why I was surprised to hear my name called because we didn't have a lot of contact," Trubisky said. "But obviously they had done their research, was impressed with me at the combine and my workout, but I haven't had a whole lot of contact with them so that makes it just so much more surprising."

Trubisky didn't even know he was being picked until Goodell announced his name, as the Bears were apparently too pumped by their selection to give him the customary phone call.

"All they said was they're very excited and that they couldn't call me while I was back in the room because they were going nuts in the war room," he said. "I'm very excited to get to Chicago and get to work."

The former North Carolina standout will enter camp as the Bears' No. 2 QB, behind Mike Glennon, who Chicago gave a three-year, $45-million contract to in free agency.
