Wait, do the Browns actually know what they're doing?

If you are reading this while standing up, stop for a second and sit down, because the following sentence is going to knock you off your feet.

The Cleveland Browns actually looked like they knew what they were doing in Thursday's first round of the 2017 NFL Draft.

Laughing at the hapless Browns' decisions in the draft has become somewhat of an annual ritual, but the AFC North club appears to have made some very positive decisions for the second year in a row.

The first pick came as no surprise as the team made it clear they were looking to be more than just friends with Texas A&M star Myles Garrett long ago. The real craftsmanship came after their defensive savior's name was called.

Pick Player Position Rank*
1 Myles Garrett DE 1
25 Jabrill Peppers S 26
29 David Njoku TE 23

First, the Browns traded with the Houston Texans to move back from the 12th spot to 25th. Cleveland picked up a 2018 first-round pick in the move, adding to the stockpile of selections they have next season.

After taking explosive Michigan safety Jabrill Peppers at the 25 slot, the Browns acquired a third pick in the opening round through a trade with the Green Bay Packers. They used that to snag Miami's explosive tight end David Njoku to help the passing game.

The Browns can now line up with two tight ends in formation, as Njoku can partner with veteran standout Gary Barnidge. With the weaker-armed Cody Kessler the likely starter at quarterback next season, having multiple threats in the middle of the field is key for the offense's success.

Peppers was one of the most explosive players in college football last year, and as painful as it will be for Ohioans to root for a former Michigan player, he brings massive star potential to the Browns' secondary. With Garrett and Peppers on board now, new defensive coordinator Gregg Williams has a bunch of new toys to unleash on offenses throughout the league.

Most Browns fans were preparing for the worst when Roger Goodell opened Thursday's event in Philadelphia, but for one night at least, Cleveland resembled a competent NFL franchise.

Not bad for a club whose recent first-round selections have been questionable at best:
