The Houston Texans have selected linebacker Zach Cunningham out of Vanderbilt in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft.
Cunningham is a solid athlete who had a highly productive college career. Some analysts had him pegged as a possible first-round pick, so the Texans may have found value at No. 57 overall.
Zach Cunningham Bio:
Position: LB
School: Vanderbilt
College Experience: Junior
Height: 6-3
Weight: 234 lbs
Strengths
- Incredibly productive player at Vanderbilt; SEC-high 125 tackles in 2016, 16.5 of which for a loss
- Athleticism; defends the run sideline to sideline and contributes against the pass, making him an every-down player.
- Strong instincts; makes reads and puts himself in the best possible position to make a play on the ball in all phases.
Weaknesses
- Slender lower half is a less-than-ideal build for an NFL linebacker.
- Lacks the strength to stack and shed blocks from far bigger offensive lineman at the next level.
- Inconsistent tackling ability despite the strong production numbers, primarily due to a tendency to go high.
