NFL's 2017 schedule includes Christmas Day doubleheader

Geoff Burke / USA TODAY Sports

For the second time in as many years, the NFL will capitalize on the prime-time opportunities available Christmas Day.

Confirmed as part of Thursday's long-awaited schedule release, following up a full slate of Christmas Eve games, are a pair of intriguing contests on Monday, Dec. 25.

Up first is a 4:30 p.m. ET contest in which the Pittsburgh Steelers will head to Houston to take on the Texans. The Steelers were also in action on Christmas Day last year, clinching an AFC North title with a win over the Baltimore Ravens.

The nightcap, set for 8:30 p.m. ET, will see the Philadelphia Eagles host the Oakland Raiders. Rapidly on the rise after finding their franchise quarterbacks, the Christmas Day matchup marks one of five prime-time games for both Philadelphia and Oakland.

Just one week of regular-season play remains after the holiday weekend, as all 16 teams will be in action on New Year's Eve to wrap things in Week 17.
