Report: Jaguars' Albert holding out for new contract

Jacksonville Jaguars left tackle Branden Albert wasn't present for the team's first day of offseason workouts Monday because he's holding out for a new contract, sources told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Albert joined the Jaguars this offseason in a trade with the Miami Dolphins. The left tackle has two years remaining on a five-year, $47-million contract.

This first phase of the workouts is voluntary, so Albert isn't technically transgressing by evading team activities, though he would be fined for missing later mandatory portions of the offseason program.

Albert had arguably the worst year of his career in 2016, but had put together a solid string of seasons before that - and the Jaguars presumably hoped he could recapture that form and lock down the left tackle position, which has been a consistent weakness for Jacksonville.
