Tom Coughlin says he'll monitor Jaguars players in weight room

Despite now being an executive instead of a head coach, Tom Coughlin can't shake his old-school tendencies.

The Jacksonville Jaguars' executive vice president of football operations said Tuesday he intends to personally ensure his players are giving it their all during offseason workouts.

"When the players report, I'm going to be in the weight room watching who the workers are on this team," Coughlin said, according to Sam Kouvaris of WJXT.

As pointed out by Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, the NFL Players Association might have an issue with Coughlin's plans, as "only full-time or part-time strength and conditioning coaches" are permitted to attend weight-room sessions.

However, while the rule says other coaches aren't allowed to observe the workouts, it doesn't mention executives, which could be a handy loophole for Coughlin and the Jaguars.

The NFLPA declined Florio's request for comment on Coughlin's intentions.
