The New York Jets were scheduled to meet with quarterback Jay Cutler prior to signing Josh McCown on Monday, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

McCown signed a one-year deal reportedly worth $6 million, fully guaranteed. The veteran quarterback's contract is laden with incentives and is worth up to $13 million.

Cutler was released by the Chicago Bears on March 9, after spending eight seasons with the club. The 33-year-old completed 59.1 percent of his passes for 1,059 yards, four touchdowns, and five interceptions in 2016 before his season was curtailed by a shoulder injury.

McCown completed 54.5 percent of his passes for 1,100 yards and six touchdowns against six interceptions as a member of the Cleveland Browns in 2016.

He is favored to become the Jets' starting quarterback and will compete against Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg for the role.
