Buccaneers' Humphries swapped No. 11 jersey to Jackson for charity

A portion of DeSean Jackson's three-year, $33.5-million contract will go to charity after the new Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver worked out a deal to keep his No. 11 jersey.

Jackson reached out to third-year Buccaneers receiver Adam Humphries to inquire about No. 11, which Jackson wore with the Washington Redskins, and the two came to a unique agreement.

Humphries didn't want Jackson's money, however.

Instead, the pair of pass-catchers worked out a swap of the number that will including Jackson making a donation to a local children's charity.

"It was kind of fun. I've never been in a situation like this before," Humphries said, according to Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times. "DeSean gave me a call, asked me how much I liked No. 11, if I wanted to keep it, how it would be cool if he got it from me. We had some fun going back and forth, me asking him how much it meant to him."

Jackson hasn't always worn No. 11. He wore No. 10 with the Philadelphia Eagles, but was forced to move up one digit after joining the Redskins because Robert Griffin III had dibs on No. 10.

"I wanted to text him a picture of him wearing No. 10 in a Philadelphia jersey and say 'Man, you look good in that number. You should keep that.' But I knew he wanted 11," Humphries joked.

It's common for star players to purchase a jersey number from a new teammate upon switching teams. For example, Darrelle Revis reportedly paid Mark Barron $50,000 for No. 24 upon joining the Buccaneers in 2013.
