Report: Romo will not sign with Jets upon being released by Cowboys

Bill Streicher / USA TODAY Sports

The New York Jets will not sign quarterback Tony Romo, according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports.

Romo was informed that he'd be released by the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday, marking the end of his 14-year tenure with the organization.

The 36-year-old was displaced after Dak Prescott excelled in his absence. Romo suffered a fractured vertebra during the preseason and Prescott took over as the team's starting quarterback, and was named Offensive Rookie of the Year for his performance while earning a Pro Bowl nod.

New York was linked to Romo throughout the offseason, possessing a genuine need for a starting-caliber quarterback.
