Jaguars' Julius Thomas: Remains in Jaguars' plans for 2017

Thomas (back) remains in the Jaguars' plans for 2017, WJXT Jacksonville reports.

Analysis:

Thomas hasn't quite lived up to his All-Pro billing thus far into his tenure in Jacksonville and only appeared in 21 of 32 games the past two seasons. With new personelle in charge of roster management this offseason, there was thought the Jaguars could move on from the tight end. However, he was due $3 million if he remained on the roster at 4 PM ET on the Friday after the Super Bowl, and the deadline came and went, signaling the Jaguars' commitment to Thomas for the upcoming season. They only would've saved $2 million by cutting him, so that doesn't seem to have been a legitimate option anyway. However, they can save $7 million by releasing him next offseason. Unless Thomas can put together a healthy and productive 2017 campaign, his days in Jacksonville may be numbered.
