New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis was charged with four first-degree felonies and one misdemeanor stemming from an alleged incident that occurred Sunday morning in Pittsburgh.

Revis was charged with two felony counts of aggravated assault, one felony count of robbery, one felony count of conspiracy (aggravated assault), and one misdemeanor count of terroristic threats.

NFL spokesperson Brian McCarthy said the league would look into the incident, NFL.com's Austin Knoblauch reports.

Pittsburgh Police released a statement detailing an incident that took place at 2:40 a.m. ET on Sunday, where a 22-year-old male allegedly approached Revis, confirmed it was him, then began recording their conversation while continuing to follow the cornerback.

Revis would later grab the 22-year-old's cell phone and tried to delete the video of their encounter. Revis then discarded the phone onto the road, and a different 21-year-old male attempted to find the cell phone, causing another verbal confrontation. Both the 21-year-old and 22-year-old alleged they were punched by Revis, and said the next thing they remembered was speaking to police.

Police viewed the video on the cell phone and confirmed Revis as the assailant.

Revis' attorney, Blaine Jones, alleged his client was walking by a group of five or six men, one of whom bumped him in the shoulder while intoxicated. Revis attempted to calm the alleged aggressor down and identified himself, while stating "I don't want any problems from you guys."

After walking away from the group, Revis turned around and knocked the cell phone out of the alleged aggressor's hands, and a fight ensued. Revis sought medical attention for his injuries, Jones said.

"It's my understanding that when Darrelle turned around he wasn't sure whether it was a weapon or a phone," Jones said via ESPN's Rich Cimini. "He didn't know. He just knows he left, these guys were saying his name, he turns around and sees an object and he wasn't sure what it was or whether he was going to get robbed or assaulted or what."

Jones also said he spoke to the Jets but did not want to divulge the nature of Revis' injuries.

"The bottom line is, Darrelle Revis was the victim in all of this," Jones said. "He never went out to start a fight. He has stellar credibility."
