What the New England Patriots decide to do with backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo will be one of the offseason's defining storylines.

It's assumed the Super Bowl champions will trade the young pivot if they receive the right offer, and wide receiver Julian Edelman believes Garoppolo has the makeup of a franchise player, comparing his style to that of two all-time great quarterbacks.

"I'm not a paid (general manager) so I don't know the whole value thing, but as far as a guy that I could play with every single day, Jimmy Garoppolo, I mean, the guy's a stud," Edelman said Tuesday on NFL Network's "Total Access," according to Lakisha Jackson of NFL.com. "He went out and played in the regular season and he played very well. He's got that kind of gunslinger confidence. That Brett Favre, Aaron Rodgers kind of confidence. He practices hard, he prepares hard. He's a good kid. He's young. I think he's a good player."

Garoppolo started two games at the start of the 2016 season due to Tom Brady's suspension, the only starts of his three-year career.

The 25-year-old impressed in the limited action, however, throwing for 502 yards and four touchdowns.

The Cleveland Browns and the Chicago Bears are reportedly among the teams interested in Garoppolo, and it's believed a first-round pick or several high selections is New England's asking price.
