The New York Giants have cut ties with a pair of veteran players on the offensive side of the ball, as wide receiver Victor Cruz and running back Rashad Jennings were officially released on Monday.

Cruz spent the previous seven seasons with the Giants after joining the team as an undrafted in free agent in 2010.

He will turn 31 midway though the 2017 season, and was set to count $9.4 million against the Giants' salary cap. Considering he's managed only 39 receptions for 586 yards and one touchdown since suffering a major knee injury in 2014, that figure was untenable.

Jennings had been with the Giants since landing a four-year, $10-million deal as a free agent in 2014. He primarily saw work as the starter when healthy over that stretch, with his most productive season being a 2015 campaign in which he tallied 863 rushing yards, 296 receiving yards, and four total touchdowns.

Parting ways with Cruz saves the Giants $7.5 million against the 2017 salary cap, and unloading the final year of Jennings' deal frees up an additional $2.5 million.
