Lawrence Timmons is set to hit the open market this offseason, but that doesn't mean the Pittsburgh Steelers won't attempt to bring back their longtime linebacker.

While the Steelers have other priorities - including signing Le'Veon Bell and Antonio Brown to contract extensions - the team is also interested in re-signing Timmons, a source told Mark Kaboly of DKPittsburghSports.com.

While Timmons turns 31 in May, he provides a veteran presence for a young Steelers defense. His role was expected to diminish in 2016, but he instead put together a highly productive campaign, starting all 19 games including playoffs.

If the veteran linebacker is allowed to hit the free-agent market, he could receive significant interest around the league.
