Chiefs want Berry, Poe back in KC, owner says
Two of the Kansas City Chiefs' most talented defenders will be among the most coveted free agents this offseason.
Safety Eric Berry and defensive tackle Dontari Poe are expected to hit the open market this year, but the Chiefs are making it clear they want both to remain in Kansas City.
"I can't speak highly enough about Eric," team owner Clark Hunt said to Terez A. Paylor of the Kansas City Star. "The person he is, the football player he is, the leader. He's a source of inspiration. His role for the team in 2016, what he meant to the team and the leadership he provided, we certainly want Eric back."
As for Poe:
"I'll just say generically, with all the guys we drafted, we want them all back. That's got to be balanced, at some point, with the cap. It's truly a dynamic process as we go through it, but I certainly hope Dontari is back with us this year."
Berry was named to his third career All-Pro team this year after racking up 77 tackles, four interceptions, and two touchdowns while leading the Chiefs to a division title. Poe excelled on defense as an integral part of the front seven, while adding both a rushing and passing touchdown this season.
