McCoy: I didn't know who Kiko Alonso was when Eagles traded me

LeSean McCoy was perplexed by the Philadelphia Eagles' decision to trade him to the Buffalo Bills in exchange for linebacker Kiko Alonso after the 2015 season.

What made the move even more confusing for the running back was not even knowing who Alonso was.

"And at the time, I didn't know who that was ... I just didn't understand it," said McCoy, according to Kevin Patra of NFL.com. "Usually, when guys get traded it's a money situation or their game has declined, and those two things just weren't off."

Nearly two years on from the trade, McCoy is still unsure what motivated the Eagles to ship him away.

"I'm not sure. That's something I can't answer. Only thing I can think about and tell you the truth is this: Where I'm at now, I'm with a team I'm happy to be with and they reached out when I got traded and they gave me a contract. They've been special to me, very special, in a good way, so I'm happy."

In hindsight, the Bills were the clear winners of the trade. Alonso lasted just one season in Philadelphia before he was traded again, this time to the Miami Dolphins.

McCoy, meanwhile, re-established himself as one of the best players at his position. He was the league's sixth-leading rusher this season and the key component of a Bills ground attack that ranked first in yards per game (164.4).
