Indianapolis Colts interim general manager Jimmy Raye III is the "clear favorite" to earn the position permanently, replacing the recently fired Ryan Grigson, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Raye is head coach Chuck Pagano's preferred choice, adds Rapoport.

Grigson was relieved of his duties Saturday, with owner Jim Irsay also confirming Pagano would stay as the head coach in 2017.

Raye is set to interview for the position and has acted as one of Grigson's top assistant since 2012.

Before that, he spent 17 seasons in the front office of the then-San Diego Chargers.
