Lethal Rodgers propels Packers to halftime lead

Kevin Jairaj / USA TODAY Sports

The Dallas Cowboys had no answers for Aaron Rodgers in the first half of Sunday's divisional-round game against the Green Bay Packers - and their season hangs in the balance because of it.

It's difficult to describe Rodgers' 30-minute performance without resorting to cliches. Surgical. Deadly.

Rarely if ever have we seen a quarterback function at this level.

The final numbers - 15-of-24 for 191 yards and one touchdown - help tell the story, but they don't come close to telling us everything.

Rodgers outsmarted and embarrassed the Cowboys' defense on multiple occasions, earning free plays by using a hard count to draw his opponents offside and snapping the ball while Dallas was still making substitutions.

At one point, Rodgers didn't even bother to secure his chin strap before quick-snapping the ball in an attempt to catch the Cowboys napping.

With the Cowboys reeling as Rodgers picked them apart, it opened things up for running back Ty Montgomery, who ran for two easy touchdowns deep in the red zone.

Two late scores pulled the Cowboys within eight points, but it's hard to see them keeping pace with Rodgers if he stays hot in the second half.
