Report: 49ers to interview Cardinals exec McDonough for GM

Ed Szczepanski-USA TODAY Sports / Reuters

The San Francisco 49ers plan to interview Arizona Cardinals vice president of player personnel Terry McDonough for the team's vacant general manager job on Friday, sources told Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area.

The 49ers have spread a wide net in search of their next GM, with six other candidates already interviewed and two more - in addition to McDonough - expected to go through the process.

McDonough has spent four seasons with the Cardinals, three in his current position, and has accumulated 25 years of scouting experience in the NFL. He began his career as an intern with San Francisco in 1989.
