New England Patriots director of player personnel Nick Caserio has declined an opportunity to interview for the San Francisco 49ers' vacant general manager job, Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio reports, citing multiple sources.
Caserio was considered by some as likely to be offered the job in a package with prospective head coach Josh McDaniels, the Patriots' current offensive coordinator.
That won't happen, apparently, though McDaniels remains in the running for the 49ers' head coaching job.
As Florio notes, it's possible Caserio taking his name out of the running could make the job more attractive to McDaniels, since the 49ers might now offer him increased power over player personnel.
