Bortles says he played season with 2 shoulder separations, wrist tendonitis

Troy Taormina / USA TODAY Sports

Injuries may be at least be partly to blame for the steep regression Blake Bortles experienced in his third season.

The Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback recently told Michael DiRocco of ESPN that he played the year with a pair of shoulder separations and wrist tendonitis.

Bortles' mechanics took a nosedive throughout the season, so news of shoulder and wrist issues makes sense.

The Jaguars could feasibly conduct their head coaching search hoping to find a candidate who can get Bortles back on track, but it's also possible that the club goes in a new direction sooner rather than later.

Bortles was unable to build upon the promise of a 4,400-yard, 35-touchdown sophomore season, finishing the 2016 campaign with completions on just 58.9 percent of passes for 3,905 yards, 23 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions.
