Chiefs' Johnson promises 'I will play again' after season-ending Achilles injury

Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Derrick Johnson suffered his second major Achilles injury in three years Thursday night. The stalwart defender ruptured the Achilles in his left leg two years after tearing the Achilles in his right leg.

The latest injury appeared to put the career of the 12-year veteran in question, but he put all of the retirement talk to rest on Friday.

"I will play again," Johnson said, according to Ed Werder of ESPN.

While Johnson will miss out on the rest of this season, one in which the Chiefs are currently 10-3 and the No. 2 seed in the AFC, he said his presence will still be felt.

"My job now is to help us get a ring any way possible," he said, Werder reports.

The Chiefs are sure to miss having Johnson in uniform this season, but they can rest easy knowing he plans on making a healthy return in the future.
