Suspended Oakland Raiders linebacker Aldon Smith met with NFL officials including commissioner Roger Goodell on Friday to discuss his potential reinstatement, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.

Smith has been suspended for more than a year for an August 2015 incident that resulted in charges of DUI, hit and run, and vandalism.

The former San Francisco 49ers first-round pick signed with the Raiders before the 2015 season and played nine games for the team before the NFL handed him an indefinite suspension of no less than one year.

Smith must apply to be reinstated, and the NFL hasn't seemed to be in any rush for him to start that process. Friday's meeting could be an indication that a decision is near, however.

Perhaps complicating matters, video was posted on Periscope earlier this year that showed a man baring a strong resemblance to Smith appearing to smoke marijuana while saying "They don't know it's me. It's not like I put 'Aldon Smith.'"

Smith has denied he was in the video.
