Texans owner supports Osweiler: 'Don't be critical of him'

The Houston Texans have lost three straight games and their outright lead in the AFC South, and many believe their quarterback is to blame.

Brock Osweiler barely broke 200 passing yards in the latest loss - a 21-13 defeat at the hands of the Green Bay Packers on Sunday - but Texans owner Bob McNair thinks the criticism is unwarranted.

"I thought he played great," McNair said, according to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle. "He played as well as his competitor did. If not for the passes that were dropped, his grade would have been higher than (Packers quarterback Aaron) Rodgers.

"Don't be critical of him. He played well."

Osweiler has taken plenty of flak this year. After signing a mammoth free-agent deal in the offseason, he has the Texans at just 6-6, and has thrown for almost as many interceptions as he has touchdowns.

If McNair wants the criticism to stop, he'll have to guide Houston to positive results in its next four games against the Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars, Cincinnati Bengals, and Tennessee Titans.
