As time continues to pass without an agreement for a new stadium in San Diego, the Chargers appear more and more likely to complete the high-profile move that was explored at length last year.

The organization is expected to exercise its option for relocation to Los Angeles in 2017 absent a "miracle" in negotiations to find a solution locally, sources told ESPN's Jim Trotter.

Last year's race for Los Angeles ended with the Rams' proposal for an Inglewood site being approved over that of the joint project in Carson brought to the table by the Chargers and Oakland Raiders.

As part of the NFL's agreement with the Rams, though, the Chargers were granted the first opportunity to join as co-tenants in the event they couldn't lock down a new stadium in San Diego.

According to the ESPN report, team owner Dean Spanos would have to notify the NFL of his intentions to exercise the option by Jan. 15.

Construction on the $2.6-billion stadium is expected to be completed in time for the 2019 season, so the Chargers would have to find another venue for home games over the next two years.
