New England Patriots running back Dion Lewis is active for the first time this season for Sunday's game against the San Francisco 49ers, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.

Lewis tore his ACL last November and was placed on the PUP list to begin the year with an eye on a return at this point in the season.

His return just happens to come against the league's worst-ranked rushing defense. Lewis will join LeGarrette Blount and James White in the New England backfield, however, so it's unclear how many snaps he will see.

Patriots wide receiver Chris Hogan has been declared out with a back injury.
