Report: Romo will have significant say if traded; has eye on Broncos

If the Dallas Cowboys do decide to trade Tony Romo this offseason, the quarterback is reportedly looking to land in the Mile High City.

Romo would have a "significant" say in any trade talks, and his preferred destination would be the Denver Broncos, reports NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Due to the veteran pivot's contract, a trade would be difficult but not impossible. His cap hit in 2017 is $24.7 million, a number that would likely not sit well with potential suitors.

A restructure would be a key part of any negotiations, but with Denver signing Von Miller, Emmanuel Sanders, and Brandon Marshall to big-money extensions recently, it would be a challenge to add Romo.

But for Romo, it's an understandable destination to covet.

Most of the roster that carried an effective but aging Peyton Manning to the Super Bowl is in tact, and would likely give Romo the best shot for a ring of any potential landing spot.

The move also makes sense for Denver. Trevor Siemian's flaws seem to be dragging the rest of the roster down, while first-rounder Paxton Lynch doesn't look ready to take over the reins in 2017.

Romo conceded the starting job to rookie Dak Prescott during the week in an emotional press conference, almost certainly bringing his time in Dallas to a close.

He suggested that retirement was not an option, as he still had the desire to keep playing. However, Rapoport adds the 36-year-old could consider ending his career with the Cowboys depending on how healthy he feels at the end of the season.
