Patriots move Dion Lewis to active roster

The New England Patriots have activated running back Dion Lewis off the physically unable to perform list to their 53-man roster, the team announced Saturday.

Lewis returned to practice Thursday after missing the first nine weeks of the season. He underwent surgery in the summer to repair ACL damage suffered in Week 9 of the 2015 campaign, and had been a productive member of the Patriots' offense before being sidelined.

Head coach Bill Belichick said earlier this week that Lewis will not immediately retake his spot as the team's main receiving back because James White has done an impressive job in his absence.

The Patriots play the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night, and it's unknown how much the team plans to use Lewis in his first game since activation. In a corresponding move, the Patriots sent running back Tyler Gaffney to their practice squad.
