Sherman believes NFL made fine impossible to appeal

Troy Wayrynen / USA TODAY Sports

Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman said the NFL made it impossible to appeal the $9,115 fine levied against him for a hit on Buffalo Bills kicker Dan Carpenter during Monday's game.

Sherman ran into Carpenter during a field goal attempt prior to the whistle being blown. The star cornerback was flagged on the play for jumping offside.

"They made sure they made it unappealable because they said they can’t hear the whistle on the film," Sherman said to Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times. "And they said I hit him after the whistle, which was not true. But you can’t really appeal something that is 'he said, she said.'"

Sherman said the NFL may have succumbed to public outcry when issuing the sanction.

"I mean the league responds to public pressure on a number of issues and they have shown the ability to fold to public pressure,” Sherman said. “This is just another one of those opportunities. The public sees things in slow motion, super slow motion, so the league feels a reason to justify things."
