Report: Jets' Fitzpatrick sprained MCL vs. Dolphins; not considered serious
New York Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick suffered a sprained MCL in Sunday's loss to the Miami Dolphins, but the injury is not considered serious, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
However, Schefter adds that the injury could impact what the Jets do at the quarterback position moving forward, with Bryce Petty - who played in relief on Fitzpatrick - likely in position to get a shot under center.
Fitzpatrick was able to return after being briefly sidelined with the injury, but at 3-6, it makes little sense for the Jets to continue to play the veteran passer.
With Geno Smith on injured reserve and rookie Christian Hackenberg believed to be far away from being ready to start, New York has to see what it has with Petty, who hadn't thrown an NFL pass prior to Sunday.
