Chiefs' Jamaal Charles: Could continue to be limited until fully healthy
Head coach Andy Reid emphasized that the team will remain cautious with Charles (knee), Terez A. Paylor of the Kansas City Star reports. "It seems like there's a rush on (his return), but if you really look at what's real, it's a long season," Reid said. "And we'll need him as we go, and I'm trying to be smart with it."
Analysis:
Charles dealt with swelling in his surgically repaired knee in the days leading up to Sunday's game against the Saints. While it seems to have only been a minor setback, the 29-year-old running back was still limited to just one carry for no gain on two snaps in Sunday's contest, with the Chiefs unsurprisingly opting for a cautious approach. Spencer Ware's emergence has allowed the team to be careful without sacrificing too much, but it does seem there's still hope for Charles to play a starring role at some point before the end of the season. The immediate outlook remains a major question mark, potentially shaping up as a mystery on a week-to-week basis. Ware figures to once again lead the way in Week 8 against Indianapolis, but it's possible Charles could still take on an increased role if the swelling in his knee subsides.
