Kelly: 'I would think' Kaepernick stays starting QB after bye week

It wasn't the strongest vote of confidence, but Chip Kelly appears set to stick with Colin Kaepernick as his starting quarterback.

The San Francisco 49ers head coach said Monday a change under center was unlikely on the other side of their upcoming bye week.

"I would think Kapernick would stay at quarterback," Kelly said on KNBR, via Cam Inman of The Bay Area News Group.

Kaepernick hasn't made an impact as a passer in two games since stepping in as the starter, completing just 46 percent of his attempts for 330 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception.

Given the athletic advantage he possesses over Gabbert, though, the 49ers will presumably be comfortable waiting for some improvement in that area of his game.

For as much as the offense has struggled, Kaepernick racking up 150 rushing yards on 17 carries has given the group a new dimension for which opposing defenses must account.

The 49ers' passing attack will have some extra time to get on the same page before taking on the New Orleans Saints and the NFL's 30th-ranked pass defense in Week 9.
