After beginning the season on the physically unable to perform list, requiring an absence of at least six weeks, Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Ladarius Green was eligible to return to practice for the first time this week.

The free-agent addition is still working his way back from offseason ankle surgery, though, and he told reporters Wednesday there isn't a timetable for his return to action.

"It's up to (the medical staff)," Green said, according to Chris Adamski of The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Green had long been planning to return Sunday versus the New England Patriots, the first game he's eligible for activation, but the lack of progress may indicate he'll remain on the sidelines.

His ability as a receiver would add another dynamic element to an explosive Steelers offense when he returns. For the time being, Jesse James remains the top tight end for the NFL's ninth-ranked passing attack.
