Browns' Robert Griffin III: Could return at some point this season

Griffin (shoulder) may be able to return this season, as a five-week checkup revealed he likely will not need surgery , ESPN.com reports.

Analysis:

The fractured coracoid bone in Griffin's left shoulder has improved with rest, potentially allowing him to return from injured reserve at some point after Week 9. The Browns still don't have any timetable, and there's no guarantee Griffin will get another chance to start even if he makes it back by the end of the year. Rookie third-round selection Cody Kessler hasn't exactly been great, but he may be doing enough to retain the starting job, as the Browns are already far removed from playoff contention. Kessler will start against the Bengals in Week 7 even if Josh McCown (collarbone) is cleared to play.
