Don't rule Robert Griffin III out for the season just yet.

After a recent checkup, doctors believe that the Cleveland Browns quarterback will not require surgery on the broken bone in his shoulder, sources told ESPN's Jeff Darlington.

Griffin was placed on injured reserve Sept. 12, when it was thought that his time in a Browns uniform could be coming to an end just one game into his debut season.

It now appears Griffin may get back on the field at some point after spending the required eight weeks on the sidelines, with the earliest possible return date being a Nov. 10 matchup with the Baltimore Ravens.

It's entirely possible the Browns would opt against using their lone IR activation on Griffin and instead continue to evaluate rookie Cody Kessler in a starting role. Doing so could be the logical move in advance of yet another potential quarterback decision at the top of next year's draft.

Either way, the fact that Griffin could still factor into the 2016 season remains notable for a Browns team desperately in search of its first win.

The former rookie sensation landed in Cleveland on a two-year, incentive-laden deal this offseason, and a strong training camp quickly earned him the starting job over veteran Josh McCown.
