Panthers' Cam Newton: Limited at practice Wednesday

Newton (concussion) was limited at practice Wednesday, Bryan Strickland of the Panthers' official site reports.

Analysis:

Newton hasn't received clearance from an independent neurologist, hence the reason he wasn't a full participant. In fact, one of the final stages of the concussion protocol is capped activity on the field, which included reps for Newton with both the first-team offense and scout team, according to Steve Reed of the Associated Press. Backup quarterback Derek Anderson took on the remaining work with the first-teamers, but those could dry up soon enough if Newton gets the all-clear before the end of the week.
