Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt underwent back surgery on Thursday a procedure that is believed to be season-ending, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The surgery comes just one day after the Texans placed Watt on injured reserve, a move that keeps him out a minimum of eight weeks.

Watt worked hard to return to the field after needing offseason surgery to repair a herniated disc in his back. Despite not participating in training camp and not suiting up during the preseason, he was able to start Week 1.

Unfortunately, the reigning Defensive Player of the Year re-injured his back in a Week 3 loss to the New England Patriots and will now be sidelined until 2017.

This will mark the first time Watt has missed a game in his six-year NFL career, and with two major back injuries in such a short period of time, concerns have been raised about his playing future.
