When the New York Jets signed 33-year-old quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick to a one-year contract this summer, both parties were well aware they didn't have much time to work with.

Fitzpatrick leads one of the oldest starting offenses in the league, that includes receiver Brandon Marshall (32), running back Matt Forte (30), center Nick Mangold (32), receiver Eric Decker (29), and left tackle Ryan Clady (30).

After falling to 1-2 with an embarrassing performance against the Kansas City Chiefs, Fitzpatrick recognizes that he needs to pull up his boots in a hurry for the Jets to capitalize on their roster.

"At least for Brandon and I, and (Darrelle) Revis, Nick and different guys, the clock is ticking," Fitzpatrick told Newsday's Kimberley A. Martin. "We’re not going to be able to play the game forever. So, in that regard, just seeing the opportunity that we have right now, seeing the team that we have and just knowing that the time is now.

"I’m trying to do everything I can to take advantage of this opportunity."

Fitzpatrick took responsibility for the loss after tossing six interceptions to the Chiefs. He and the Jets will get their chance to move back to .500 on Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks.
