Vikings' Adrian Peterson: Placed on IR

Peterson (knee) was placed on injured reserve Friday.

Analysis:

Peterson had surgery Thursday to repair a torn meniscus, which usually requires three-to-four months of recovery. The Vikings haven't entirely ruled him out for the season, but if he does actually return, it wouldn't be until the very end of the regular season or the playoffs. Peterson could technically return from injured reserve in Week 12, but it's highly unlikely he'll be ready by that time. Jerick McKinnon is taking over as the starting running back, with Matt Asiata also expected to have a significant role.
