Osweiler points out obvious, takes blame for loss to Patriots

When the number of times your team crosses the 50-yard line can be counted on one hand, it's pretty obvious where blame lies for the loss.

At least Houston Texans quarterback Brock Osweiler can admit his mistakes.

Following the Texans' embarrassing 27-0 Thursday-night loss to third-string quarterback Jacoby Brissett and the New England Patriots, Osweiler didn't shy away from his blunders and took responsibility for his actions - or maybe his lack of action.

"Any time a team doesn't score points, it's on me," Osweiler said, according to ESPN's Sarah Barshop. "I think any time an offense struggles with developing a rhythm, struggles with scoring points, I think the first thing you have to examine is the quarterback.

"I'll take the blame for this one."

Osweiler completed 24 of 41 passes for 196 yards with one truly awful interception - his fourth through three games. The quarterback didn't offer any real explanation for why the Patriots had his team's number all night, other than simply his need to play better.

"They didn't do anything tonight that we weren't expecting," Osweiler said. "I need to play better so I can give this team an opportunity to win ball games like this."

Head coach Bill O'Brien had equally blunt reasoning for the Texans' blowout loss.

"They played really well and we did not play well," said O'Brien.
