Peterson's meniscus surgery successful, Vikings deny LCL injury

Brace Hemmelgarn / USA TODAY Sports

The Minnesota Vikings announced Thursday that Adrian Peterson's meniscus surgery was successful, while denying the running back had suffered any additional injuries to the knee amid reports of an LCL tear.

"Adrian Peterson had a successful lateral meniscus repair this morning," the statement said. "The surgery was performed by team physician Chris Larson at Twin Cities Orthopedics. There were no additional injuries or issues noted in or surrounding the knee joint during the surgical procedure. The rehabilitation process will begin immediately."

Peterson is reportedly set to be sidelined three-to-four months, after opting against a trim of the meniscus that would have resulted in shorter recovery time, but carries more long-term risk.

The Vikings didn't announce any official timetable, though they're reportedly hopeful Peterson can return for the playoffs.
