Report: Redskins' Norman to shadow Beckham in coverage

A disappointing start to the season appears to already have the Washington Redskins changing things up on the defensive side of the ball.

After back-to-back games in which the club referenced scheme when asked why Josh Norman wasn't shadowing the opposing team's top receiver, the All-Pro corner will be permitted to match up with Odell Beckham Jr. in Sunday's game against the New York Giants, a source told ESPN's Britt McHenry.

The adjustment comes with one limitation, as McHenry adds that Norman wouldn't shift down into the slot. It would remain a substantial change, though, as Washington had started the season deploying their high-priced free-agent addition exclusively on the left side of the field.

Norman following Beckham would give the Redskins their best possible chance at slowing down an explosive Giants offense, meanwhile affording two star players a chance to reignite a rivalry that sprouted last year.

Bashaud Breeland will draw either Sterling Shepard or Victor Cruz on the opposite side, with Dashaun Phillips continuing to see work against three-receiver sets in the slot.
